Young football players came together at the home of Middlesbrough FC for a match in aid of three good causes.

Members of the under 14 and under 16 teams at Brompton Juniors and North Yorkshire Soccer Academy played two games at the Riverside Stadium on Sunday, May 5.

The teams were all associated with George and Julie Harland of Harland Builders, Northallerton, which funded the event.

Money was raised for the Injured Jockeys Fund, the Teenage Cancer Trust and Grace's Garden.

All three charities are close to the hearts of the Harlands, with the Injured Jockeys Fund doing great work for injured riders, including Graham Lee, whose son was on the scoresheet from the penalty spot.

The Teenage Cancer Trust and Grace’s Garden funds are in memory of Grace Sanderson, who died aged 16 in October 2022, seven months after being diagnosed with leukaemia. She was a student at Northallerton School, where friends are raising money for a memorial garden in her name.

A spokesperson for the football event said: "The crowd were treated to some entertaining football across both matches with some lovely team and individual goals.

"With over 60 kids taking part it was a fantastic evening for everyone, and created memories that will last a lifetime, with fundraising to date in excess of £2,900."
