SAINTS loose forward Morgan Knowles was not cited by the Match Review Panel for the incident that was deemed worthy of a yellow card during Saturday's game at Hull KR.

The incident, which saw Knowles punished for his tackle on Jai Whitbread, was deemed contact with the head and penalised and checked by the video referee, who downgraded it from a possible red to a yellow.

But on closer inspection by the sport's disciplinary panel could find no case to answer which left Saints coach Paul Wellens a relieved, but frustrated man.

Wellens said: "When I watched it live, I didn't think it was a penalty, but I can understand that it happens very quick at the time so I can understand the referee giving a penalty in that in in that situation.

"But then what I can't understand is how we watch it. We slow it down, we see it again and we're mitigating it down from a red card to a yellow.

"When it goes to the match review panel, it's not even a charge, so it should have been mitigated down from a penalty to non-penalty if it was ever going to get mitigated at all.

"But a penalty was given and I can accept that, but I can't accept the yellow card on top of it."

Wellens felt the situation was made more unsatisfactory because it had been reviewed on the screen at the time, ahead of the sin-binning.

"We had a similar situation the night before in the Salford v Huddersfield game where Elliot Wallis was sent off for something that was practically nothing.

What I need to do is get some clarity around what is the standard now, because if we don't know what the standard is, that's where frustration creeps in.

"That lack of consistency is a worry for me."

Although Knowles is clear to play on the disciplinary front, he still may miss the Castleford Tigers game with injury.

The England test loose forward missed training today due a groin issue and that makes him a doubt for the Super League Round 10 game at Wheldon Road.
