The boss of a travel agent in Wiltshire has been accused of stealing customers' money.

Mark Fitchett, of Church Street in Calne, appeared at Swindon Magistrates Court on Monday morning.

The 58-year-old faces one charge of fraud by abuse of position which alleges that, while occupying the position of franchisee for the Calne branch of Not Just Travel limited, in which he was expected to safeguard or not act against the financial interests of customers, he dishonestly abused that position intending to gain money for himself.

Keith Ballinger, prosecuting, said: "He has allegedly taken money for holidays that customers had booked and paid for which then went into his own bank account rather than the company's.

"He used that money for various items."

The defendant gave no indication of his plea and the matter was deemed to be too serious for the magistrates court to deal with.

So, Fitchett has been released on unconditional bail until 10am on Friday, April 26, when he must appear at Swindon Crown Court to continue this court case and enter a plea to the fraud charge.
