Two teenagers have been arrested after an incident in a County Durham village overnight.

Police were called to St Helen Auckland at about 12.45am on Tuesday (February 5) to reports of a disturbance on North Bridge Park.

Officers attended the scene and two men, aged 17 and 19, were arrested. They remain in police custody at this time.

Durham Police say no one is believed to have been injured.

Forensic teams and officers remain at the scene today while investigations are carried out.

A force spokesperson said: “Officers would like to reassure residents that there is no wider threat to the public and would like to thank the community for their support and patience.

“Specialist officers and forensic examiners are currently in the area making further enquiries to establish the circumstances.

“Two men, aged 19 and 17 were arrested in connection with the incident. They remain in police custody.”

Police are appealing for anyone with information to come forward to assist their enquiries.

The spokesperson added: “Anybody with any information relating to the incident is asked to contact Bishop Auckland CID on 101, quoting incident number 7 of March 5.”
