Storm Isha is forecasted to hit the North East on Sunday with strong winds and heavy rain.

There is an amber weather warning for wind in place for both Sunday and Monday (January 21 and 22).

The Met Office say that disruption to travel and utilities is 'likely' during the period.

Darlington and Stockton Times: Storm Isha

A Met Office spokesperson described what to expect in the North East: "Storm Isha will bring a spell of very strong winds during Sunday evening into Monday. Disruption to travel and utilities is likely.

"There is a good chance that power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage

"Probably some damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs

"Longer journey times and cancellations likely, as road, rail, air and ferry services may be affected

"Some roads and bridges likely to close

"Injuries and danger to life are likely from large waves and beach material being thrown onto coastal roads, sea fronts and properties."

The rest of the country is still facing a yellow wind warning with parts also having a warning of heavy rain.

A Met Office spokesperson added: "Strong winds associated with Storm Isha may bring disruption to travel and utilities across parts of the UK on Sunday and Monday."
