The draw for Bedale’s ever popular car boot sale has been made, with local groups and charities running the events to raise money.

Last year's sales were badly hit by rain, with some cancelled. This year the town council is hoping as many as possible will go ahead.

Every Saturday from mid-March to mid October the sales are held on Bedale Park, with some sales this year on bank holiday Mondays. They are arranged by Bedale Town Council, with sales starting at 6am and finishing around midday.

The council says the sales welcome buyers and sellers from all over the North of England with people coming from Newcastle, Teesside, York, Leeds, Carlisle and all places in between to enjoy the event and the town. If the weather forecast is poor, the decision on whether or not it goes ahead is made by the sale supervisor in the small hours of the morning of the sale.

A council spokesperson said: “We do not like to disappoint anyone and sales are only cancelled because of heavy rain or high winds, or because the condition of the park is such as to make it hazardous to bring vehicles onto it. If people wish to attend the car boot sale as a seller there is no need to pre-book, just turn up on the day ready for the gates to open at 6am. There is a charge of £10 per car and £15 per van, or any vehicle with a trailer, payable at the gate."
