CCM Skipton to stage second annual Next Generation Event

Last year’s inaugural event proved a tremendous success, with participants, primarily from Young Farmers Clubs across the north, more than rising to the challenge when faced with a broad spectrum of thought-provoking topics covering multiple facets of the UK agricultural sector, including public speaking, when teams of three will be invited to air their views on keynote topics facing the agricultural sector, with lively debate again expected to be the order of the day.

In addition, auctioneering, valuation and stock judging competitions, agricultural risks and a questionnaire will further test the skills of participants, while new this year on another action-packed 2024 Next Generation agenda are sheep kenning and carcase judging competitions.

A substantial £500 prize fund is also on offer as an added incentive, with multiple local sponsors again generously supporting the pioneering initiative.

Already confirming their participation are young farmers clubs throughout the northern area – Yorkshire, Lancashire, Cumbria, Durham, Northumberland and the East. While most are agricultural students, there’s an open invitation to anyone agriculture-minded to take part. The day kicks off at 10am, with a sponsored bacon/sausage sandwich to welcome attendees on arrival.

CCM’s general manager Jeremy Eaton, said: “The event will again provide a valuable opportunity for up-and-coming young people - Britain’s future farmers, auctioneers and auction staff - to test themselves in disciplines which might encourage a pathway to a career in the land-based sector or just a fun, but competitive way to spend a Sunday.”
