The inquest for a ‘cherished’ family man who was killed after the 4x4 he was travelling in was washed down river has opened.

Scott Daddy, 28, from Hull, was in a vehicle along with two other men, Leslie Forbes, 70, and Kenneth Patrick Hibbins, 59, when they attempted to cross a ford along the River Esk near Glaisdale on December 28.

At the time of the incident, police, fire service, ambulance and air ambulance all atended the scene - but all three men died at the incident.

Following the tragic events at Glaisdale, Mr Daddy’s family paid tribute to him - describing him as having “a big future ahead of him”.

The tribute issued shortly after Mr Daddy’s death, his family said: “He was a loving son, brother, uncle and boyfriend.

“Always helping others, 4x4, green laning, scouting and outdoor activities, passionate Hull FC supporter and a big circle of friends. He was taken suddenly doing something he enjoyed, but too early.

“He had a big future ahead of him. He will always be missed by his loving family."

On Friday (January 12), Mr Daddy’s inquest began - with senior North Yorkshire coroner Mr John Heath opening the inquest in Northallerton.

In his opening remarks, Mr Heath confirmed Mr Daddy’s date of birth, place and date of death, and the opening factors of his death.

During the inquest opening, Mr Heath said: “The circumstances known at this time are that Mr Daddy was travelling in a vehicle in Glaisdale on December 28 when it attempted to cross a ford and it carried away.”

Mr Heath noted Mr Daddy’s provisional cause of death as drowning and adjourned the inquest until a day yet to be fixed.
