A beautician who is a familiar sight behind the counter of one of North Yorkshire’s most popular stores, Barkers of Northallerton, has marked 30 years in the business.
Directors at Barkers thanked Karen Parkes-Hatley for her dedication and devotion to the store and the job with a special presentation.
Ms Parkes-Hatley joined the store in 1993 as a Lancome counter manager after gaining extensive experience in the beauty industry, and within two years was promoted to beauty buyer and manager.
She said she has seen a big difference in the industry over the years. "I have seen and overseen lots of changes in the beauty industry and at our beauty hall, which includes all of the leading cosmetic companies," she said. "We have had two refits and are working on plans for a possible third.
"What I love about the beauty industry is it never stands still, it is always at the forefront of fashion and trends and constantly improving skin care technology.
"Although 85 per cent of people shop online now, Barkers still remains so busy with local customers who are very loyal to the store, and regular customers coming from all over the country. They clearly enjoy the great shopping experience where we offer a great service destination.
“Everyday is different working as a buyer and I am very proud to be part of a thriving company which has a lot of values, which you don’t always see these days. I am also proud to lead a great team of people with so much enthusiasm and determination to achieve results.”
