A man has been arrested on suspicion of importing drugs following a sting operation in Darlington last month.

Officers executed a search warrant at an address on Brougham Street in Seaham and arrested a man in his 40s on suspicion of importation of a controlled drug and possession of a controlled drug on Saturday (October 7).

The man was detained, taken into custody and bailed pending further enquiries.

This comes after a kilogramme of cannabis imported from the US was intercepted by officers last month.

A Durham Police spokesperson said: "Over a kilo of cannabis imported from the US was intercepted by officers last month

"In September, neighbourhood officers from Darlington Police working alongside Border Force carried out two operations where they seized over a kilogram of Class B drugs.

"Following the sting, officers were then able to identify a suspect and obtain a magistrate warrant to search his address.

"On Saturday (October 7) officers executed the search warrant at an address on Brougham Street and arrested a man in his 40s on suspicion of importation of a controlled drug and possession of a controlled drug.

"The warrant was carried out as part of Operation Arizona – Durham Constabulary’s operation to target crime and antisocial behaviour."
