People are being asked to give their thoughts on proposals for cycleways in two Teesside areas.

Stockton Council is aiming to improve cycling facilities in Thornaby and Eaglescliffe. It proposes a joined-up network of cycle routes across Thornaby to improve access to the town centre and connect with other routes.

It also plans an improved cycle link along Durham Lane in Eaglescliffe to connect key employment sites and residential areas. Both routes would link into the existing cycle network.

The plans are to be delivered with government money as part of the £23.9m Thornaby Town Deal and Stockton South’s levelling up funding.

The proposals are available to view and for comment online for Yarm and Thornaby until Friday, September 29. They can be seen at the Egglescliffe Community Centre, Thornaby Pavilion, Stockton Cycle Hub and Yarm Library.

Stockton South Matt Vickers said: “I welcome the progress being made on Thornaby’s £23.9m Town Deal, for which residents will be beginning to see real impact.

“The next stage of the funding has begun, and drafts of new cycle lanes have been published. These routes will improve connection and safety when travelling by bike, and promote healthy lifestyle choices.

“This follows the successful upgrades performed on local homes, improving security and energy efficiency and the demolition of the N-Power building to make room for our new swimming pool.

“I’ve encouraged residents to have a voice throughout the Town Deal process, which have helped to influence the priorities for the funding. I would push all local residents to participate in the online engagement running over the next few days and have their say on the proposed cycle routes.”
