Children and families looking for an exciting summer filled with activities need look no further than the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and UNESCO Global Geopark.

Thanks to a range of projects funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund, the North Pennines AONB Partnership is offering a variety of events for all to enjoy.

Kicking off the summer programme on the weekend of July 15-16 are free archaeology taster days for ages seven to 16.

Community archaeology group, Altogether Archaeology, will be working near Gilmonby, where children will have the opportunity to participate in a genuine archaeological dig.

For ages five to 12, the popular holiday activity programme, Wild Wednesdays, is back at the Bowlees Visitor Centre in Upper Teesdale.

These action-packed days allow children to explore the AONB and Geopark through interactive and hands-on activities.

Not forgetting the little ones, there are nature-based activity sessions every Thursday in the school summer holidays.
For just £1 per child, parents and children can spend a morning at the Bowlees Visitor Centre, discovering the wonders of the outdoors and getting to know the plants, creatures, rocks, and rivers that surround them.

Those seeking a unique camping experience can look forward to Fellfoot Sounds on August 19-20.

Located in the picturesque dark skies area of Glassonby, Cumbria, this environmentally friendly event offers the opportunity to listen, create, and enjoy live performances, music, and workshops.

Later in August, Altogether Archaeology will be hosting more sessions, this time at a dig in the Gueswick Hills near Cotherstone in Teesdale.
