The weather is set to be cloudy this morning with drizzling rain and sunny spells expected across the North East.

After a warm weekend, residents can expect a cloudy start to Monday (May 1) with sunny spells and scattered showers according to the Met Office.

The forecaster said the morning clouds will be accompanied by light rain and drizzle, before making way for sun and warmer temperatures.

They also predicted fresh to strong northerly winds developing along the east coast of the region.
