Flags and colourful logos adorned shop fronts in Barnard Castle this week as part of a “small world” multicultural festival organised by mayor Rima Chatterjee.

The event, which has also raised funds for Wetheriggs Animal Rescue, aims to celebrate the diversity of Teesdale.

As well as the shop front displays, the festival has included art workshops, performances by school pupils, live music and cooking demonstrations.

It continues on Saturday, April 1, with an exhibition at TCR The Hub, while in the Market Place there will be street food and the farmers’ market, plus entertainment, all from 10am to 2pm. In the Witham cafe, there will be live music from 11am to 12pm.
