A BUSY eight-year-old has set about her own fundraising efforts inspired by Comic Relief.
Laura Oosthuizen, a pupil at Brompton School, near Northallerton, has been making red pom poms to sell, raising funds for children less fortunate than her.
“I know there are lots of children in the world who don’t have safe, happy places to grow up like I do," she said. "I wanted to do something to help. My grandpa showed me how to make pom poms with cardboard rings and string. Now I have some proper pom pom makers so I can do large, medium and small ones.”
Laura's creations, which can be used to brighten up Comic Relief decorations, are on sale at the Boggle Hole shop, down Barkers Arcade, in Northallerton.
Laura’s mum Julia said “We are unbelievably proud of her. She’s so full of energy and is so thoughtful about others. She’s been working hard on the pom poms between school, Brownies and football (she plays for Northallerton Town). We hope the pom poms make some money, but also make people smile.”
Comic Relief aims to tackle poverty in the UK and around the world, with Red Nose Day taking place this year on Friday, March 17.
