A man has been left with head injuries and fractures to his face after being hit by a car on Wednesday evening.
The 46-year-old man, who was on foot at the time, was hit by a red Ford Focus leaving him hospitalised.
The incident happened at about 8.05pm on Wednesday evening on the A177 Durham Road in Stockton. The vehicle was travelling towards Stockton at the time.
Police and ambulance crews rushed to the scene and treated the man for his injuries before taking him to James Cook University Hospital.
The road remained closed for several hours while officers worked at the scene and drivers were urged to avoid the area.
Cleveland Police has now launched an investigation into the incident and is appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to come forward.
In a statement a force spokesperson said: “Anyone with information or dashcam footage is asked to contact Cleveland Police on 101 quoting reference SE23039775.”
A spokesperson for the North East Ambulance Service added: “We were called at 8.06pm on Wednesday to attend a road traffic collision between a car and a pedestrian on Durham Road, Stockton.
“We dispatched a paramedic ambulance crew, a rapid response paramedic, a doctor and a clinical team leader to the scene. They treated one person for head injuries before taking them to hospital.”
