AFTER they were gifted a new team strip, the future us definitely looking sky blue for Middleham.

AFC Middleham Town – nicknamed “The Boars” – was formed this summer after more than 15 years without a football team based in the town competing in any league.

Playing at the Middlleham Sports Field in the Hillsprint Hambleton Football Combination, the side has locally named their pitch as “The Castle Ground”. The venue was previously used to hold cup finals, mainly due to its location with a backdrop of Middleham Castle.

North Yorkshire County Councillor for the area, Karin Sedgwick, has been able to offer support to the club by utilising her locality budget, and the team now has sky blue away shirts and new training t-shirts. AFC Middleham Town home colours are maroon shirts with sky blue, maroon shorts and maroon socks.

At their latest home match, Cllr Sedgwick was present to see The Boars in action, and wearing their new shirts for the first time.

Their opponents were Streetlam Farmers, and it wasn’t long before Middleham struck first scoring after just 43 seconds. The Boars went on to beat the visitors with a convincing 12-1 victory – which now sees them take top spot in the league as they head towards a small Christmas break.

The club has developed a proper structure, with a treasurer, chairman, groundsman and committee members, with players, volunteers and supporters all mucking in along the way, repairing the dugouts, maintaining the playing field, cleaning the pavilion, and also running the onsite cafe.

Club chairman and manager Arwel Carter said: “I am immensely proud of what has been achieved so far this year, where we started with nothing.

“We are always on the lookout for support, sponsorship and any kind of help.”
