New details and casting have been announced for a new drama set in the North East after film crews arrived on the region’s coast last week.

BBC bosses say the thriller, called ‘Boat Story’ promises ‘twists and turns’, ‘high-octance action sequences’, and ‘off-beat humour’.

The announcement comes after a grounded fishing boat appeared on Redcar beach earlier this month (November 3) as filming for the new show got underway.

When two hard-up strangers stumble across a haul of cocaine on the shipwrecked vessel they can’t believe their luck, and agree to sell the drugs and split the cash. But the characters quickly find themselves entangled with police, masked hitmen and a criminal gangster, according to details of the plot released by the BBC.

Daisy Haggard and Paterson Joseph, who were spotted during filming on Redcar Beach last week are set to play the main characters Janet and Samuel.

The actors were seen holding bound up black bags, presumably the hauls of cocaine they stumble across in the drama.

Tommy Bulfin, Commissioning Editor at the BBC, said: “Boat Story is a hugely entertaining and fiendishly clever thriller that I know will have the nation desperate to know what’s coming next.

“And I cannot think of a more perfect cast to bring these fantastic characters to life – you’ll just have to wait and see which ones you can trust.”
