A DALES postwoman and her sister who took part in the Great North Run to repay a charity for supporting their terminally-ill brother have raised more than £7,000.

After their brother Paul Tweddle, 44, who lives in Darlington was diagnosed with incurable brain tumours in 2021, Macmillan Cancer Support stepped-in with a nurse who helped him apply for PIP and access benefits to make him more comfortable.

As they were both grateful for this help the charity had given their brother, sisters Tracy Bowe, from Middleham, and Leanne O’Brien, completed the race on Sunday, September 11. They finished the 13.1-mile course in two hours and 34 minutes.

With the generosity of their many supporters, especially the people of Harmby, Spennithorne and East Witton – Tracy’s regular postal round – the pair have raised well over £7,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Tracy said: “I would just like to say a massive thank you to the local community, especially people on my daily walk of Harmby, Spennithorne and East Witton for their generosity and support.

“My sister and I are truly grateful for all the donations we have received for Macmillan.

“Although the run itself was a challenge, we gave it 110 per cent because of all the support we had received.”

A display of 18 giant gnomes on display in Tracy’s front garden, two dressed up in support of her fundraising for Macmillan helped swell the total. People have been taking selfies in return for a small donation to the cause.
