INSPIRED by the gold medal-winning success of the England women’s team at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, Northallerton Hockey Club is opening up to people who might want to give the sport a try for the first time.

The club will hold a free taster session on Thursday, September 8 from 7pm to 8pm as part of a drive to attract new members for the forthcoming season.

The session, at Thirsk School’s astroturf pitch off Gravel Hole Lane, is for over 18s who might never have picked up a stick before, or people who may have played school or club hockey previously, but not for several years.

Club secretary Hannah Chapman said: “Hockey is for everyone and we’d love to see some new people come down and give the sport a try. It’s a great, social sport and we’re a small, friendly club always on the look-out for new people to join us – but there’s no obligation to sign up at first, just come down on the night and have a go.”

Sticks will be provided, and sturdy trainers are advisable for anyone attending. For more information, email northallertonhockeyclub@hotmail.com, see the website www.northallertonhockeyclub.com or find the club on Facebook.

Junior training for ages eight and above takes place on Tuesday evenings from 6pm to 8pm at Northallerton Leisure Centre’s all weather pitch.
