FIRE crews and farmers worked together to tackle a combine blaze which spread through a field near Richmond.

An area of about 2,000 square metres near Aldbrough St John was affected by the fire this afternoon.

Crews from Richmond and Colburn were sent to the scene, and requested another engine from Darlington to help.

A spokesperson for Richmond Fire Station said: "Crews worked in very arduous conditions, along side local farmers with the farm machinery to help create a fire break and also helped us dampen down the hot spots with a 16,000 litre water tanker.
