The Darlington 10K returns this weekend – and is celebrating 35 years of hosting the popular town centre event.

More than two thousand runners will set off to complete two laps of the town centre course in what has become a popular event for runners of all levels aged 15 and over. 

Sponsored once again by local car dealer SG Petch, the race is set to take place on Sunday August 7.

There will be three races on Sunday, all starting at staggered times throughout the morning.

Fun Run – 9am

Junior 3k – 9:45am

10K – 10:30am

Runners will be set off in waves, an participants should have already received an email to confirm their time slot, area and further details.

However, in a change of tradition, there will not be a winner’s presentation this year. Prizes will instead be mailed out.

Car parking

 

Darlington Borough Council said the car parks in Abbots Yard and East Row will not be available.

All short stay car parks inside the inner ring road are two hours free parking on arrival and them £1 an hour thereafter. A three-hour ticket is £1.

All long stay car parks outside the inner ring road are £1 all day.

The East Street Multi Storey car park offers two hours free parking on arrival or £1 all day.

Prizes for the winners

 

1st prize of £600.00, 2nd prize of £350.00, 3rd prize of, £225.00, 4th prize of £50.00, 5th prize of £30.00, 6th prize of £20.00

Men’s and women’s team prizes

(First three to count) first three prizes of £30.00, 2nd 3 prizes of £20.00, 3rd 3 prizes of £15.00

Veteran prizes

(Over 40 to over 80 for men and over 40 to over 80 for women). For the 1st and 2nd in each five-year age category. Value £20 and £15 each respectively (not otherwise a prize winner).

Young athletes category

There will be a young athletes category in the 10km and a trophy plate will be awarded to the first boy and girl. Young athletes aged between 15 and 17 will be eligible.

An additional £150 in prize money is on offer for winning the race and setting a new 10km course record.

Food and entertainment

 

There will be food provided by the local establishments around the Market Square HUB including 16 Horsemarket, Pennyweight, Hole in the Wall, Darlington Market Hall, Boot & Shoe and Mrs Palmer’s Pantry. There will be additional catering stalls around the market place.

There will also be a performance by Beatles Unplugged performing on the stage.
