A parade will be held through the centre of Bedale this morning to mark the bestowing of the freedom of the town on nearby RAF Leeming.

A special Illuminated Address scroll which effectively gives staff from the station the freedom of the town was presented last week. The parade will be the culmination of the 80 year relationship between Leeming and the people of the town.

Parking across Bedale Market Place has been suspended until noon on Friday to give RAF staff and band members from Leeming the chance to march through. The parade will start at 10.45 near St Gregory’s Church, opposite Bedale Hall.

The Illuminated Address was handed over to the Station Commander Group Captain Gareth Prendergast by Bedale Mayor Councillor Amanda Coates to prepare the way for this week's parade.

people in the town have been invited to join in by lining the route of the march through.
