THE growing need for nostalgia has prompted the opening of a new venue in Northallerton selling vintage items.
Betterdaze record shop and Juke box showroom on Zetland Street launched a vintage attic, dubbed Yesterdaze, last August, and has since seen a steady increase in interest and sales.
Regular Vintage Sunday events incorporating a record fair at the Golden Lion hotel have helped boost its popularity, and it has featured local specialist traders in 20th Century vintage goods, including clothing, furniture, crockery, ceramics, books and literature, toys and games and music and film memorabilia.
Gary Lewis, of Betterdaze, said: "In less than a year we had outgrown the area on the first floor and so when the shop next door became vacant recently, an opportunity for Betterdaze to expand presented itself. The finishing touches are being made to the new premises in readiness for opening on Friday, July 1 and our weekend of special events.
"Yesterdaze Vintage will have two floors of vintage goods and will become a unique retail destination venue for lovers of 20th Century quality items whilst offering local traders their first opportunity in retail trading and offering diversity to visitors to the town.
"We're fortunate to be expanding our business at a time when several business opportunities are arising in the town, particularly in the Zetland Street area, with the imminent opening of the nearby Treadmills retail area, Everyman Cinema, plus two university campuses from Sunderland and York."
