HUNDREDS of runners pounded the pavements of Northallerton this morning as the popular 10k race returned to the town.

The Northallerton 10k was postponed for two years due to the Covid pandemic but made a triumphant return on Sunday (May, 29).

Runners who entered last year's event before it was cancelled were automatically entered into the run this year, meaning it quickly reached a 1,000 strong field of competitors.

The race started at 10am from Northallerton Town Hall and took runners on a 10k circular loop of surrounding country roads and villages.

Spectators lined the streets to cheer the runners along and to see Rob Scott of the Richmond and Zetland Harriers cross the finish line first with a time of 31 minutes 28 seconds.

Second place went to Tom Cornthwaite of Salford Harriers and AC, followed by Tom O'Mahoney of Richmond and Zetland Harriers.

The first woman over the line was Catherine Williamson of Loftus & Whitby AC with a course time of 37 minutes 49 seconds.
