A WOMAN is expected to admit killing a young boy when she next appears in court.

Carol Hodgson is accused of murdering Daniel James Hodgson Green following an incident in a North East bungalow in February this year.

The 39-year-old made a brief appearance at Teesside Crown Court, for a plea hearing on Friday afternoon (May 13).

Although no formal pleas were entered, the court heard how she has indicated that there will be an admission that she was 'criminally responsible for the death of Daniel'.

Richard Wright QC told the judge that he anticipated that pathology and psychiatric reports would be completed by the end of the month.

Judge Paul Watson QC, the Recorder of Middlesbrough, adjourned the case until June 13 and remanded the defendant in custody.

Hodgson, of Upper Garth Gardens, Guisborough, spoke only to confirm her name during the hearing.

No other details of the alleged offence were heard during the brief hearing when Hodgson appeared in court via a videolink from HMP Low Newton.

The defendant was arrested and charged after Cleveland Police attended a report of a concern for safety at 10.07am on February 2.

The toddler was taken to hospital by ambulance by was pronounced dead later that day.

A week after the toddler's death, around 100 people including family members and friends gathered with flowers, balloons, candles and cuddly toys to remember two-year-old.

Hodgson is expected to enter a plea to the charge of murder on June 13.
