A BARONESS known for multiple sporting achievements was recently welcomed to a Holiday Inn in North Yorkshire as part of an exclusive event.

Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson was recently welcomed to the Holiday Inn at Scotch Corner for an exclusive event to inspire women and girls in the local area.

Ms Grey-Thompson attended the event to talk to 140 guests about her life in sport, her time in politics, and the challenges of living in a wheelchair in the hopes of inspiring women of all ages in the region.

Known for her multiple sporting achievements, Ms Grey-Thompson spoke on the night specifically about the 30 world records that she broke after joining the GB wheelchair racing team.

She also spoke about the Olympic medals she secured during her long career including 11 golds, four silvers, and one bronze during her 16 years in the sport.

Tanni  has since become a champion of disability rights and welfare reform from her position in the House of Lords.

Toni Bainbridge, manager at Holiday Inn Scotch Corner, said they were “very pleased” to be able to “welcome Baroness Tanni Grey Thompson.”

He added: “She has so many fantastic stories to tell and has achieved such great things during her career, so she was the perfect person to help inspire women in the North East.

“We knew we wanted to work on this event with Soroptimist International of Richmond and Dales as we very much align with their core values, and we are proud to have hosted such a brilliant talk in our conferencing facilities.

“We have seven great meeting rooms at Holiday Inn Darlington that can accommodate up to 300 guests, so we welcome groups of all sizes to consider us for their events.”
