A CELEBRITY football match held this weekend has raised at least £3,000 for three charities nominated by two children who have fought a brave battle with cancer.

Bedale AFC in North Yorkshire staged the game on Sunday in support of charities chosen by Alfie Hutchinson, eight, and 12-year-old Bailey Cuthbert.

The celebrity football game is being organised by Simon Grayson, and included stars such as Ryan Sidebottom from Yorkshire CCC, Danny Mills, Ian Harte, Glynn Snodin, Andy Hughes and Bryn Law from Sky Sports.

Paul Heaton, founder of the Housemartins and the Beautiful South, Colston Smith, who plays Craig Tinkler in Coronation Street, and Chris Edwards from Kasabian, along with Stewart Downing, Craig Hignett, Grant Leadbitter, Gareth Williams, also took part.

The celebs beat Bedale 5-2 in the Heck Cup and the event was sponsored by the sausage manufacturer.

Money raised will be divided between the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation, Prostate Cancer and the proton treatment unit at Manchester Christie Hospital

Bedale AFC chairman Martyn Coombs said: “The weather was fantastic, it went really well and we had a fab day.”
