NORTHALLERTON resident Mary Middlemiss was presented with a bouquet of flowers by Deputy Mayor Cllr Paul Cornfoot to help mark her 100th birthday.

Mrs Middlemiss was born in Ripon and lived in Northallerton as a youngster before moving away, but returned to the town in later life.

She worked as a bakeress during the war, before marrying and having three children.

Married for 50 years, Mrs Middlemiss now has grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Cllr Cornfoot said it was an honour to present the bouquet to her on behalf of the town council.

He added: “It was a pleasure to meet Mary and reminisce with her. She really gave us some fascinating stories about her early years in Leeds and Ripon. All at the town council wish her many congratulations and best wishes for her 100th birthday.“
