THE overall Northern Farmer of the Year for 2022 was announced last night as Ed Andrew and family of the Our Cow Molly brand, at a spectacular awards ceremony at Pavilions of Harrogate.

Four hundred guests attended to celebrate the very best of northern agriculture, and see awards presented in ten categories, before the overall winner was announced by Sam Holdstock of principal sponsor Mole Country Stores.

The night was once again superbly hosted by former Look North presenter Wendy Gibson.

Ed, who had earlier been named Dairy Farmer of the Year, farms a 90-strong herd of Holstein Friesian crosses at Dungworth on the edge of Sheffield, and has built up the Our Cow Molly brand to the extent that it now delivers fresh milk direct to customers, including 20 coffee shops run by the University of Sheffield, and has a wide range of ice cream flavours on sale.

Six years ago they invested in a new milk processing plant and now process and use 100 per cent of the milk they produce, and also take milk from another two local dairy farms.

Ed was unable to attend on the night, but was represented by the NFU’s Richard Holdsworth, who picked up the award on his behalf.

New for this year was the Women in Agriculture category, and the inaugural winner was Kate Dale, Yorkshire Rural Support Network Co-ordinator at the Yorkshire Agricultural Society.

Northern Farmer editor Hannah Chapman said: "What a night – it was amazing to see everyone back together, after the 2021 awards had to go virtual, and a huge thank you to everyone who worked so hard behind the scenes to put the event on.

"It was a true celebration of agricultural excellence, and we are so proud to be able to shine a light on such important work. Congratulations to all our winners, and finalists."
