THE last quarter final tie in the Hillsprint Hambleton Football Combination League Cup was played at Broomfield Park between Shorthorn, South Otterington and Kirklington on Sunday.

Michael Gunnell gave Shorthorn the lead after 25 minutes, and Curt Tasker made it 2-0 two minutes later. Lewis Brooks reduced the arrears for Kirklington three minutes before half time, but a brace from Jacob Stayman Collin on 63 and 74 minutes secured the 4-1 win for Shorthorn, who are now at home to Stokesley Wanderers in the semi-final.

In division one, second-placed Stokesley Wanderers visited third placed Sportsman’s, N’ton at Northallerton Leisure Centre and won 4-2. After ten minutes, a ball over the top by Wanderers was chased down by James Stinson and Sportsman’s Josh Fullarton. Stinson got ahead of Fullarton who pulled him back. As Fullarton was the last defender the referee sent him off.

On 25 minutes, Matthew Smith gave Stokesley the lead. Ten-man Sporty’s hit back with Aaron Ramsbottom equalising five minutes later. On minutes, Wanderers scored a great team goal. Their right back passed the ball down the right wing to the winger, who took a couple of touches before crossing into the Sporty’s penalty area where Stinson clinically scored from six yards.

Sporty’s hit back again on 43 minutes with Col Anderson equalising. The second half was very even with end to end play. With five minutes to go, Sporty’s substitute Nathan Pratt fouled Stinson in the Sporty’s penalty area. Stinson scored the resultant penalty. Two minutes later he completed his hat trick with a smart finish from close range at the near post. The win moves Stokesley to the top of the table.

Fourth-placed Durham Ox visited fifth placed Kildale and had an emphatic 8-2 win. Dan Baxter led the Ox scorers with four goals, followed by a Sam Vernalls brace and further goals from Brett Burrows and Charlie Bingley.

Kildale’s scorer was Ben Readman with a brace. Ox move up to third in the table.

Sessay Cricket Club hosted Streetlam Farmers. In a high scoring game they won 5-3 with goals from Mark Jackson, Charlie Wilson, Karl Carver, Hugh English and Richard Thompson. Tom Barley, Ross Brogan and Zenas were Streetlam scorers.

Cowtons hosted Knayton and won 7-1. Dan Rafiq made his debut for Cowtons after his transfer from Potting Shed and scored a hat trick, a scoring feat matched by Mark Sims. Scott Ryan was the other Cowtons scorer. Richard Fawcett scored Knayton's goal on 81 minutes.

In division two, Golden Lion, N’ton, hosted Katch, N’ton and won 12-1. Ben Wood lead the Lion scorers with a hat trick followed by a brace each for Ben Darville, George Fawcett and Lee Manamley and further goals from Eddie Thornborough, Hayden Milner and an own goal by Katch’s Chris Kirby. Roy Smith had given Katch the lead after 15 minutes. The win moves Lion up to second in the table.

Fourth-placed Leeming United visited White Bear, Bedale and won 9-2. Dom Colbron lead the Leeming scorers with four goals followed by a Tim Fream hat trick and a Alfie Noon brace. Jack Chapalow with a brace was the White Bear scorer.

Oddies WMC, N’ton hosted Catterick Garrison Football Centre and won 5-0, with two goals each from Jordan Wallace and Sam Rayner and one from Jordan Barrads.
