FIRE crews were called to a caravan which was set on fire at the roadside.

Firefighters from Darlington attended the blaze on the A67.

The caravan, which was full or carpets and other household items, had been dumped by the side of the road and set alight.

County Durham Fire and Rescue Service (CDFRS) was called at about 6.50pm on Sunday.

It is believed the fire was started deliberately, a spokesperson for the brigade said. 

CDFRS is appealing for anyone with information about the fire to report it.
