Yeadon-Guiseley M.C. Restricted trial, Addingham Moorside, Sunday

BUXTON teenager Harry Turner hit the trials headlines in Yorkshire on Sunday when he rode his 300cc Birkett Scorpa to victory at Addingham Moorside where the Yeadon-Guiseley Motor Club staged its first closed to club trial.

The headlines were not about Harry's victory but how he managed to beat the invincible Hemingway brothers on home ground. Even more unusual was George Hemingway beating his elder brother Harry, while Chester brothers Dec and Brad Bullock scooped the Escort class from Bradford builder Charlie Smith.

Tony Holmes flagged the course, implementing changes in the sections and also reversing the direction to the normal clockwise rotation. Ten sections were plotted, starting at the south extremes of the land. Section two penalised all but Turner and Harry Hemingway.

Turner did not have any penalties but the north area section changed any chance of a win. Sections six to eight were hard and tight. Many of the sections featured tight turns on rocks which tested George Hemingway. Brother Harry incurred a five in the second section otherwise it is likely he could have posted a clean ride. Regular Clubman A and B contenders Paul Kettlewell and Phillip Hammond won their classes albeit with tight progressive scores right down each class. The club also ran a Clubman C route for four riders, which Jimmy Crabtree won and a Small Wheels class, which Alfie Drachenberg won with a penalty-free ride. Yeadon and Guiseley run again on February 6 at Keighley Gate with a centre championship trial.
