ROTARIANS have donated to a ground-breaking school that gives hundreds of Kenya’s poorest children their first taste of education.

Eleven years of hard work by Rotarians has transformed a rusty tin shack serving 35 children in Mombasa into a modern school for 350 with books and up-to-date computers.

Members of Northallerton Mowbray Rotary Club enjoyed an inspirational presentation on the Little Faces School by founder Sally Searle, who launched the project in 2011 after seeing children without desks and chairs forced to write on the floor. There were no toilets or running water. With financial support from Rotarians, a new school has been built with four kindergarten and primary classrooms, offering high-achieving pupils the prospect of a university education.

Sally, president of St Neots Rotary Club, Cambridgeshire, was handed a cheque for Little Faces by Northallerton Mowbray counterpart, Dianne Mousley.
