AFTER the death of famous US singer Meat Loaf, whose hits included Bat Out of Hell, we look back at the a time when he was set to move to the North East fishing town of Hartlepool.

In 2003 the international superstar took his love for the town’s football club one step further and instructed his advisors to look for a house in the North East town.

At the time he expected to pay around £1 million for the property, but it needed a sound-proof room for parties.

Louise Molloy, the singer’s spokeswoman at the time, said: “He is looking for quite a large house as he does have quite a lot of parties, and he will need somewhere secluded."

According to a local estate agent at the time however, he may have found it difficult to find a house in that price range and may have to look nearby.

A spokesperson for Dennis Dowen’s Estate Agents in Hartlepool said at the time: "There may be some properties in the northern end of town that reach the £700,000 to £800,000 price tag, but not any for £1m.

"On the outskirts of Wynyard, where he would be in the company of footballers, you may be able to buy a house for £1m."

It was reported that the singer was set to look around properties in the region in November that year, when he was in the region as part of a nationwide tour.

Ms Molloy added: “Meatloaf has visited the town before and was overwhelmed with how friendly and pleasant the people are."
