THE last remaining team from the Hillsprint Hambleton Football Combination in the North Riding Sunday Challenge Cup crashed out in the third round at Newlands Park FC, Scarborough.

Catterick Rovers made the long journey and lost 17-4. Bailey Proudlock with a hat trick and Jack Rushby were the Rovers' scorers.

In the quarter finals of the Frank Bainbridge Cup, Kildale visited Stokesley Wanderers in this local derby and gained revenge for losing 4-3 in the Hillsprint League Cup earlier in the season. Kildale won the tie 2-1. Ollie Smith put Kildale ahead on 20 minutes, only for James Stinson to equalised for Wanderers five minutes before half time. Lewis Wood scored what proved to be the winner on 65 minutes. Kildale are away to Streetlam Farmers in the semi-finals.

The Hillsprint League Cup is at the second round stage, and first division Sportsmans visited second division Catterick Garrison Football Centre and won 3-1. in a flurry of early goals, Dan Caisley put Sporty’s ahead after just two minutes, and George Catterall equalised for Catterick three minutes later.

In the second half Ryan Wilson (65 minutes) and Saul Bamber Lister (75 minutes) scored further goals for Sporty’s to take them through to the quarter finals where they are away to either Durham Ox or Streetlam Farmers.

Second division Shorthorn, South Otterington visited first division Sessay Cricket Club and won 6-3. Mark Jackson put Sessay ahead after 15 minutes. Shorthorn hit back with a brace from Jacob Stayman Collin to give his side a 2-1 half time lead. In the first minute of the second half Michael Gunnell increased Shorthorn’s lead to 3-1. Richard Thompson reduced the arrears for Sessay on 60 minutes from the penalty spot. Shorthorn scored a further two goals through Tom Lewis and Alex Mitchinson to make it 5-2. Hugh English scored a third for Sessay on 83 minutes before Rio Smithson Hogg scored a sixth for Shorthorn in the last minute. Shorthorn are at home to Kirklington in the quarter finals.

In division one, the Cowtons v Knayton and Durham Ox v Robert Thompson’s, Thirsk games were postponed because Knayton and Robert Thompson’s couldn’t field sides.

In division two, third-placed Kirklington visited fifth-placed Oddies WMC and easily won 5-0. James Newcombe with a hat trick, Lucas Gray and Ryan Barker were the Kirklington scorers.

Bottom club Katch FC, N’ton hosted sixth-placed Academy, Dalton, Thirsk and won 4-3 to record their first win of the season. Andrew Osgood and Kian Whiting, with a brace each, were the Katch scorers. Sam Carter (two) and Martin Murray were on target for Academy.
