ONLY two of the eight scheduled fixtures involving Hillsprint Hambleton Football Combination teams survived the heavy overnight frost on Sunday morning.

Both were in round two of the Hillsprint League Cup. Catterick Rovers travelled to Leeming United and could only field nine players. This did not deter them and they won the tie 3-2 in a very close game. Luke Wilson opened the scoring for Rovers after 10 minutes.

Liam Leinster scored a second for Rovers on 30 minutes, but Leeming hit back with Jack Howes scoring two minutes later. On 56 minutes Leeming were reduced to ten men when Simon Marshall was sent off for serious foul play.

Eight minutes later. Leinster scored his second for Rovers to make it 3-1. Chris Young scored a second for Leeming to produce a tense last 20 minutes, however, Rovers held on to progress into the quarter finals where they will play either Catterick Village or Stokesley Wanderers at home.

Rovers manager Jack Yuill said it was the best football his team had played this season.

Kirklington hosted Oddies WMC, Northallerton and in another very close game, won 5-4. Oddies took the lead on 12 minutes courtesy of an own goal by Kirklington's Marc Gray. Ryan Barker equalised for Kirklington on 27 minutes. Three minutes later Jordan Wallace restored Oddies' lead, only for Leon Taylor to equalise for Kirklington.

On 40 minutes Tommy Horner scored a third for Oddies, but James Ashford drew Kirklington level 15 minutes into the second half.

Guy Keeble put Kirklington ahead for the first time in the game on 78 minutes, and Ashford scored his second on 83 minutes to make it 5-3 Kirklington. In the 90th minute, Sam Rayner scored a fourth for Oddies, however, they couldn’t find an equaliser in the eight minutes of time added on by the referee.

Kirklington are away to either Sessay Cricket Club or Shorthorn, South Otterington in the quarter finals.
