RUTH Mitchell, a wedding photographer based at Borrowby, near Thirsk, won five honours at the recent British Institute of Professional Photography Regional Awards, including Yorkshire wedding photographer of the year.

The other awards she took home were Yorkshire reportage photographer, portrait photographer, environmental portrait photographer and the wildlife image competition.

The British Institute of Professional Photography is the leading qualifying body for professional photographers and celebrates the very best in UK and international photography with its awards.

Ruth said: “The wedding industry, like many others, was badly hit by Covid. Weddings were not allowed to happen for many months, and then were only gradually opened up with restrictions on the number of guests allowed. So, to be coming out the other side winning these awards, and being named Yorkshire wedding photographer of the year is simply wonderful.”
