LEADING independent brickmaker York Handmade Brick Company has played a significant role in helping a new Surrey residential housing development to win a coveted national award.

The Easingwold-based firm has supplied specially-manufactured bricks for the contemporary development at Pirbright in Surrey, which was named the Best Boutique Development in this year’s prestigious Evening Standard New Homes Awards.

Altogether York Handmade provided 60,000 specially manufactured Old Clamp bricks for the Law Meadows site, developed by Hawksmoor Homes.

Tim Bristow of York Handmade Brick said: “It was a privilege to play a part in creating some beautiful family homes in Pirbright. This is a very attractive development, which will provide high-quality housing and enhance the community.”

The awards were held at a glittering ceremony at The Dorchester Hotel in Park Lane in London’s West End.

Geoff Atterbury, director of Hawksmoor Homes, said: “York Handmade’s splendid bricks enable us to create an authentic period style in our buildings. In our experience, no other brick gives such an authentic historic feel.

“We have worked closely with York Handmade for more than five years over many projects. The quality of their product and their service is second to none. We will definitely be working with them again.”

David Armitage, the chairman of York Handmade, added; “We are very proud of our association with Hawksmoor Homes, one of the finest residential developers in the UK. Whilst we have embarked on a number of prestigious and award-winning commercial developments across the UK over the past few years, we never forget that our bricks look magnificent on single self-build houses and residential developments too.”
