A VARIED weekend of high quality jazz music ended on Sunday afternoon when The Pedigree Jazz Band evoked the Trad Jazz boom of the 50s and 60s in a concert which packed the Lower Gallery performance space at Tennants.

The participating pubs in Leyburn were filled to the doors to enjoy the music on offer and the New Orleans style marching band performance by the Voodoo Brass Band was acclaimed by a big crowd in the Market Place.

During the weekend, a wide spectrum of jazz genres was showcased from the highly regarded Josephine Davies and "Satori" in the modern jazz idiom to Hot Club du Nord re-enacting the wonderful music of the Hot Club of France in the 1930s.

A special feature of the weekend was the workshop for aspiring young jazz musicians tutored by Paul Edis Triptych, who also played a memorable concert at Tennants. The young people then played an impromptu concert for family and visitors displaying remarkable musicality.

But perhaps the highlight of the weekend was a hugely entertaining performance by internationally renowned singer, song writer and pianist, Ian Shaw, who topped the bill on Saturday night.

Leyburn Jazz Festival took place at Tennants Garden Rooms and venues in town and was sponsored by Tennants.
