THE newitts.com Beckett Football League has lost Norton United, one of the oldest established football teams in the Malton/Norton area, with the club stating a lack of players as the reason for folding from the second division.

In Saturday's games, Rosedale entertained Thornton le Dale in division one, with the hosts worthy 4-2 winners. Rosedale made a good start but it was the Dale who took the lead when Morgan Elven scored. Five minutes later Josh Butler set up Ben Thomson to equalise. Rosedale then took the lead when a James Dunn free kick was headed into the Dale goal by Thompson for his second goal of the afternoon.

Rosedale increased their lead when a long throw by Martin Myers was put into his own goal by Dale’s Ryan Taylor. Five minutes from time Dale’s Morgan Elven scored a second goal to bring his side back into the game, but in the last minute Vinny Dawson set-up Thompson to complete his hat-trick and give his side a two-goal cushion.

Man of the match winners were centre half Neil Adams for Rosedale, and two-goal hero Morgan Elven for Thornton le Dale.

Bagby and Balk hosted Sleights in a rearranged league game with the visitors returning to form to win 7-0

The Sleights goals were scored by Robbie Hurworth, Jack Henshaw (two), Sam Russell, Charlie Smith (two), and Billy Graham, and their man of the match was Adam Entwistle.

In division two, leaders Amotherby and Swinton faced a difficult away game at Gillamoor. The visitors took the lead after 20 minutes with a Matthew Lock goal, Louis Playle-Watson equalised for Gillamoor, but the visitors regained the lead after 35 minutes with a George Peirson goal.

Gillamoor missed a few chances in the second half but the visitors claimed all three points with further goals scored by Nathan Cross on the hour mark and a second for Peirson five minutes later.

Man of the match winners were midfielder Tom Skelton for Gillamoor, and Liam Rapp for Amotherby and Swinton.

Heslerton entertained Union Rovers, who were perhaps the in-form team going into this encounter, but it was Heslerton who started the brightest.

Indeed, the Blues front three of Morgan Kendrew, Gareth Driver and Ben Flinton, supported by Tom Stockdale, gave Union's back line plenty to think about, with the visitors indebted to their 'keeper Shaun Suffield who was to thwart Kendrew on two early occasions.

Good pressure saw Union concede a corner and from the resultant kick Jack Burnett ghosted in to meet Kendrew’s delightful ball and head his team in front. Union drew level in fortuitous fashion through Dean Sleightholme after 25 minutes, and took the lead from the penalty spot after 34 minutes with a Spud Taylor spot kick. Two minutes later, Union increased their advantage with a second Taylor goal and scored a fourth direct from a corner prior to the interval when Taylor completed his hat trick.

The second half saw Union creep further ahead with Taylor scoring his fourth goal of the game. Heslerton continued to play their football and after a cross into the box from Kendrew, and a touch from Driver, Hessie captain Ollie Stanton broke his senior scoring duck, firing low into the far left hand corner. Union would answer by adding a sixth goal when Harry Thistleton scored after 70 minutes.

The remainder of the game belonged to the hosts. Driver nodded in from yet another Kendrew cross before Dan Blanchard added a fourth.

Man of the Match winners were Heslerton’s four-goal provider Morgan Kendrew, while left winger Spud Taylor won the Union Rovers award for his four goals.
