IT was another busy weekend recently for Thirsk and Sowerby Harriers, with members at several races – the bulk of them at Whixley 10k, a pleasant, multi-terrain race and the latest in the club championship series.

The winner of the race, and not actually pictured, was, for the second weekend in quick succession, Paul Peacock in a time of 38.13, almost a minute quicker than the second placed runner.

Paul Goacher, meanwhile, received a place in York Marathon as a birthday gift from daughter Clare and son in law Matt Jones. Paul finished in 5.36.27. Matt took an energy-sapping 3.38.25. and the quickest club member was Tom Levi in 3.28.11.

As part of the York group of races, Phillip Craig did the ten-mile distance over part of the marathon course, and took 1.52.11.

The Yorkshire Coast 10k at Scarborough, is a fast, fairly flat course and had almost 1,400 finishers. Andy Whiteley came 275th in 47.51, Pete Jackson 349th in 50.25 and Allison Whiteley 818th in 61.05.

Joe Poole, at the recent Richmond Castle 10k, a very tough, hilly, race mostly on roads, came 24th out of 231 in a superb 43.03.

Five harriers were at another recent race, the Grewelthorpe multi-terrain 13k race, which was again real tough one, with some hard climbs, on roads, across fields, moors, woodland and through fords, and skirting the beautiful Himalayan Gardens. Paul Chapman was the first club finisher, 26th out of 103 in 69.20, Gavin Coventry 29th in 70.40, David Tervit 30th in 71.22, Hilary Coventry 46th in 78.11 and Helen Ashworth 55th in 81.39.
