The organisation's ninth annual Vegan Food Awards praised Heck for its new vegan breakfast sausages, made with mushrooms, oven-roasted tomatoes, and herbs.

The family-run business’s growing plant-based range also includes the Ultimate Vegan Burger and Vegfurter hot dogs – available at supermarkets nationwide.

Dawn Carr of PETA said: “Vegan picks are so popular they’re landing on the menus of the biggest chains and flying off the shelves of every supermarket.”

“Heck is making it easier than ever for North Yorkshire locals and people nationwide to go vegan by offering satisfying savoury vegan sausages.”

Another North Yorkshire business was also honoured in the awards, with York-based VFC named as the Best Vegan Chicken winner - stealing the crown from global chain KFC.

VFC was co-founded by chef Adam Lyons and Matthew Glover who said: “Our mission is to spare the lives of birds by making great-tasting food that doesn’t cost a wing and a leg, and this award shows us that we are on the right track.

"We know that KFC won this same award last year, but you can let the Colonel know that we can take it from here.”
