FIGURES have revealed that there have been 13 sexual assault claims against Cleveland Police officers between 2016 and 2020.
A Freedom of Information request submitted to the police force asking for the number of sexual assault claims against serving police officers recorded between 2016 and 2020 revealed Cleveland Police had 13 claims.
This is compared to Durham Constabulary which has had 17 claims and Northumbria Police which had 31 sexual assault claims.

A Cleveland Police spokesperson said: “Cleveland Police has developed robust processes to identify and deal with officers and staff who abuse their position or do not uphold the values of the police service. Our Counter Corruption Unit proactively gathers intelligence across the Force for concerning signs or behaviours of officers and staff within the workplace, and we have an anonymous reporting line to encourage people to report concerns and information on alleged misconduct or criminal behaviour.

"Officers and staff who are found to have breached the high standards we expect of them have no place in Cleveland Police and we will deal with them without fear or favour.”
Some claims related to more than one officer, though an officer could also be involved in more than one case.
