FIVE Hillsprint Hambleton Football Combination clubs were involved in the first round of the North Riding Sunday County Cup.

Durham Ox hosted Eston Villa from Teesside and lost 6-4 in a high-scoring game. Dan Baxter and Rob Frazer gave Ox a 2-1 half time lead, and Baxter made it 3-1 on 50 minutes. Eston stormed back, scoring five goals, with Jonathan Burn scoring a fourth for Ox on 75 minutes. Ox had several great chances but missed them. Eston were more clinical and scored theirs to take them into round two.

In the all-Combination tie, Stokesley Wanderers visited Sessay Cricket Club and won 9-4. Sessay were playing their first game of the season. Ryan Dunn and Ste Drinkwater gave Stokesley a 2-1 half time lead, Sessay’s goal coming on the stroke of half time with a Richard Thompson penalty.

Stokesley scored a further seven in the second half with a brace from Kieran Watson and further goals from Drinkwater, Joe Casson, Ryan Morley, Matty Smith and Callum Gowans. Sessay scored three in the second half through Charlie Wilson, Craig Ross and Josh Duffield.

Boro Walkers visited Streetlam Farmers and won 7-0. The Sportsman’s versus Coulby Newham & Nunthorpe FC Blues match was postponed as Coulby could not field a team.

In division one, Catterick Village hosted Knayton and won 7-1. Catterick's goals came from a Gary Hutchison hat trick with further goals from Josh Wooff, Craig Teasdale, James McCormack and an own goal. Tom Griffiths scored Knayton's goal on 60 minutes. This win moves Catterick Village to the top of the league table. The Cowtons versus Thirsk Town game was postponed as several Thirsk players were suffering from Covid.

In division two, Oddies WMC visited Catterick Garrison FC and won 1-0 with a gutsy performance. Centre halves Dave Burnside and Charlie Bingley put in solid performances. The only goal came on 61 minutes when Will Horner was put through and nutmegged the on-rushing Catterick 'keeper to score.

League leaders Golden Lion visited Catterick Rovers and won 2-0 with goals from Eddy Thornborough and Ben Wood to maintain their top position.

Kirklington hosted White Bear, Bedale and drew 3-3. Sam Lyon, Josh Harrison and Dan Hare gave Bear a 3-1 half time lead. James Newcombe scored Kirklington's first half goal. In the second half Newcombe and Marc Gray scored two more goals for Kirklington to give them a share of the points.

Leeming United hosted Katch and won 3-0. Jerry Opoku gave Leeming the lead after 31 minutes. In the second half a Ben Pepper brace gave Leeming the points. The Potting Shed versus Shorthorn, South Otterington game was postponed as Potting Shed could not field a team.
