THERE was victory for Allerton Junior Athletics Club in Manchester on Sunday, September 26 for the Great Manchester Run weekend.

In the 1.5km mini run, new team members Alfie Clarkson and Abigail Ferguson won the boys' and girls' races respectively, with Abigail coming in second position overall.

The 2.5km junior run saw Tristan Baker take a podium spot in third position in his category in a time of 08:40. The rest of the team performed brilliantly, all finishing in the top ten, with Islay Wilson in fourth position in her category with a time of 09:05, Enna Carrick also in fourth place in her race in 10:58, Lucy Boot in fifth place in 09:22 and James Throup in seventh place in his category in 10:12.

It is the time of year for mud and more mud with the start of the eagerly awaited cross country season. The first of the NYSD league races took place at Acklam Grange School on Sunday, October 3. There was first place and maximum points from Connie Wilford in the under 11 girls 1.25 mile race with a time of 06:30. Abigail Ferguson came fourth in 06:58 and Georgia Raw eighth in 07:10.

The young Allerton team also won the under 11 boys category with James Throup finishing in 06:16, closely followed by Jake Holmes in second place in 06:20. William Horlock finished in tenth position in the slightly longer 1.75 mile under 13 boys race in a time of 10:12. Lucy Boot claimed second place with a time of 09:38, and Isobel Cook came seventh in 09:57, both in the under 13 girls race.

More points came in the 2.25 mile under 15 races from Libby Acton, who finished in fourth position in the girls run, and Tristan Baker, who was sixth in the equivalent boys' race in a time of 10:34.

Also on Sunday, October 3, Islay Wilson took the first girl position and second overall in the Kielder Junior Run in the Falcon U16s category with a time of 06:51 – a 2.5km run in very tough conditions. The junior runners got to cross over the marathon finish line alongside stunning Kielder Water Reservoir.
