A SPECIAL North Yorkshire train is set to launch this month which allows guests to watch the sun set with their favourite drink from the cabin.

The train, which is called “The Sundowner” and was known as the Staycation Express, will be taking to the rails later this month every evening to coincide with the setting of the sun over the Yorkshire Dales.

Guests can choose from an evening drinks menu where they can enjoy their favourite drink while watching the sun set between Settle and Ribblehead Viaduct.

The Sundowner is set to run Monday to Thursday as well as Saturday’s between October 23 to 30, with fares starting from £19.50 per person.

Departing form Skipton at 5.18pm and from Settle at 5.37pm, the train then climbs up into the Yorkshire Dales on the famous Settle-Carlisle line, providing passengers with a view of the setting sun before arriving at Appleby at 6.28pm.

Passengers will then be able to catch a convenient connecting Northern train back to Settle arriving at 8.01pm or 8.27pm.

The Sundowner is a specially adapted first-class classic inter-city train according to Rail Charter Service Limited.

Carriages sport comfortable plush leather seating around socially distanced tables of two or four as well as a buffet car and fully licenced bar and a seat trolley service.

First-class on The Sundowner starts at £19.50 one way and can be purchased here, and for those starting their journey on the The Sundowner, a return journey back from Appleby is available with Northern trains.
