NORTHALLERTON Amateur Swimming Club has thanked housebuilder Taylor Wimpey North Yorkshire for donating £1,000, enabling members to purchase much needed new equipment.

The club, which operates out of both Northallerton Leisure Centre and Bedale Leisure Centre, has invested the money into a crucial timing console which allows for dynamic timing functions throughout swimming meets. The kit will replace an existing 20-year-old device which is now failing.

The donation means the club can purchase the new equipment this year with all eyes back on competitive swimming in the near future.

Greg Lent, head coach, said: “On behalf of the club and all of our swimmers, we’d like to say a massive thank you to Taylor Wimpey North Yorkshire for this generous donation.

“The money allows us to replace our old timing console which was completely failing on us and means we can purchase more up-to-date kit to give our competitive swimming offering a real boost.

“The past year has been difficult for the club and we’re buzzing to be back in training. This donation has come as a welcome surprise and has really lifted our spirits.”

Steven Ball, sales and marketing director for Taylor Wimpey North Yorkshire, added: “We know just how tough it has been for sports clubs recently and we’re very pleased to be able to help in any way we can.

“Places like Northallerton Amateur Swimming Club are vital to the local community, promote a healthy lifestyle and provide the opportunity for swimmers to get back to doing what they love after a long period away. We were more than happy to support them with a donation.”
