NORTHALLERTON Town manager Darren Trotter resigned with immediate effect after seeing his side knocked out at home in the first round of the FA Vase by Penrith on Saturday.

In a statement posted on social media on Sunday, the club said: "Darren Trotter has today resigned his position as manager with immediate effect.

"We would like to place on record our gratitude to Del, who saw the club promoted back to division one and took the team to a record three EA cup wins over his six years in charge. He leaves with our best wishes."

Trotter left with his side 16th in the first division of the Northern League after a mixed start to the season, which has seen them win three, draw one and lose six of the first ten games.

Northallerton had gone ahead in Saturday's FA Vase tie, with a powerful header from Dan Jones finding the net in the 21st minute, but things unravelled in the second period as Penrith pushed forward.

Town were defending too deep, and in the 71st minute Max Brown equalised, before Kingsley Grandison won it for Penrith from the penalty spot after a foul by Daryl McAvoy.
