A PROPOSED extension to the opening seasons of a caravan park has been submitted to Durham County Council.

Mr W Hutchinson, owner of Whitehouse and Hagg Caravan Park, at Eastgate, in Weardale, has applied to allow his park to be open 12 months of the year.

The site is located to the south east of Eastgate, adjacent to Hagg Bridge, and is accessed via an unclassified road from the west, which is accessed via the A689.

The site lies within close proximity of the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and lies within an area of Outstanding Landscape Value.

The proposal is to extend the currently restricted openings seasons of the caravan sites, which is not expected to have any adverse effect on the existing adjacent users.

According to planning documents, the proposal will involve no physical works to any site, is required to allow an existing long established, local business to adapt and grow, and will support rural tourism and benefit other local businesses, communities and visitors.
